East Goshen Township is partnering with Chester-Ridley- Crum Watersheds Association, Habitat Resource Network, Penn State Brandywine, and other municipalities to host programs and take actions which promote more careful management of stormwater, and which minimize the impact of excessive stormwater runoff to our creeks, downstream property owners, drinking water resources, and wildlife. The next program will be Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Penn State Brandywine in Middletown Township at 2 pm, when Mark Gallagher, M.S. in Plant Ecology and Vice President of Princeton Hydro, will present “Natural Landscaping of Stormwater Basins“. We hope that your association can send a representative to this worthwhile program. The program will assist homeowners associations, property managers, as well as individual homeowners who desire to improve the functioning and appearance of their own dry or wet stormwater basins, swales, slopes, and low lying areas using environmentally friendly approaches. The presentation will provide examples of landscaping with native plants and redesign of basins that were successful in improving the appearance, reducing long term maintenance costs, and improving the functioning of the basins, in terms of infiltrating more stormwater, improving water quality, and lessening impacts downstream. Mr. Gallagher will reference requirements of Pennsylvania’s new stormwater regulations for municipalities as well as principles of ecological sustainability championed by renowned author Professor Doug Tallamy. A discussion of common problems related to the design and maintenance of stormwater control improvements, including swales and dry and wet basins, as well as ways to correct these problems, will be provided, as well as an opportunity for homeowners to ask questions. The program will be held from 2 to 3:30 pm in the Tomezsko building auditorium of Penn State Brandywine, located on 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Media, 19063. The program is free and open to the public, but space is limited, so reservations are recommended. Contact CRC at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
