Tips for Safer Shoveling:

  1. If you are inactive and have a history of heart trouble, talk to your doctor before you take on the task of shoveling snow.
  2. Avoid caffeine or nicotine before beginning. These are stimulants, which may increase your heart rate and cause your blood vessels to constrict. This places extra stress on the heart.
  3. Drink plenty of water. Dehydration is just as big an issue in cold winter months as it is in the summer.

The Mayor has requested that all residents please refrain from using their cell phones or texting while driving through the Borough of Brookhaven unless it’s an extreme emergency.  It is well documented that cell phone usage while driving is a distraction could lead to an accident.  Please drive safely.
