Police Department Obtained Accreditation – April 27, 2023

Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (PLEAC)

In November 2021, Brookhaven Council gave approval to the Brookhaven Police Department to obtain the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation. Brookhaven Police received a state grant of approximately $40,000 to assist them with this process. Thanks to all the hard work by Chief Vice and our Officers, within a short 18 months, the Brookhaven Police were able to obtain the PLEAC Accreditation.

Officially receiving the Accreditation Certificate in Harrisburg, 4/27/2023

Chief Vice, “I thank Mayor Leslie and Council for all of their support. It was an incredible honor to receive this award and to have our Sergeants Tim Habich and Ryan Eastman along with Council President Terry Heller and Councilwoman Cherie Heller with us.

There are over 1200 police departments in the State of Pennsylvania and less than 150 have attained Accreditation. Our department now stands with the 150! Achieving this standard is what being a professional and modern police department is all about!”

What is the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Program?

The Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association introduced the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Program to the Commonwealth in July 2001.

Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The cornerstone of this strategy lies in the promulgation of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Participating administrators then conduct a thorough analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives. When the procedures are in place, a team of independent professionals is assigned to verify that all applicable standards have been successfully implemented. The process culminates with a decision by an authoritative body that the institution is worthy of accreditation.

The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Program was designed and developed by professional law enforcement executives to provide a reasonable and cost-effective plan for the professionalization of law enforcement agencies within the Commonwealth.
